One of the members of our group sent me a copy of this letter, which she'd written to her grandchildren a few days after the Referendum. I thought it was powerful prose. It could be describing my own journey though the emotions and mirrors my pride in my own grandchildren, on the day after the referendum. It was only then I realised that both of them who could vote, had voted YES.
I suggested that the letter should be sent it to a newspaper, or at the very least should be posted on our website. Having removed all personal references, she has agreed to publish it anonymously here.
Be prepared - it might make you cry again! But stick with it.
Thanks for letting us publish, friend! And keep wearing your Yes badge, so no-one can mistake you for one of those who were too feart.
A LETTER TO MY ONLY GRANDCHILDREN
TWO MILLION WEE BLACK CROSSES
That's all it took for Scotland to decide that we should all agree to live in the sort of country where we should accept that we keep Fear rather than Hope, Greed rather than Generosity, Insularity rather than Inclusivity, Fiction rather than Truth, Compliance rather than Pride, Mediocrity rather than Excellence, Servitude rather than Freedom and Destruction rather than Creativity. We have elected to keep one of the most hideous weapons of mass destruction on the planet within 20 miles of our biggest city and we have handed over all our futures to the worshippers of Money. We have put off the lights and shut the only door that has ever opened for our wee country in the last 307 years and I am ashamed, because it looks as though the ones who did it are the OLD.
However...the door is not locked and the key is with you. The YOUNG. I am so proud of you all. You have already shown that you are more than able to keep the Dream alive for Scotland!
